McMinn Files $1 Million Lawsuit for Woman Hurt in Most Recent Dog Attack
A local dog owner connected to a history of assaults has been given permission to adopt once again. Residents of Austin and Lakeway Animal Protection expressed fear that Patricia Stanford could still be in possession of deadly canines.
Our client Erica Curtis was severely injured earlier this year when one of Patricia
Stanford's dogs bit her. Curtis continues to get medical attention and surgery.
Jason McMinn: "I think she'll always have a permanent, lifelong, and enduring damage to her hand."
The dogs that attacked were ordered by a judge to leave Lakeway and to live with Stanford's sister in Midland, Texas. However, local authorities claim that the supplied address is false. As recently as a week ago, according to neighbors, Stanford's dogs were spotted outside.
One of the dogs was discovered on September 6 far from Stanford's house and was taken up by Austin Animal Shelter. Later, the shelter gave the dog back to Stanford, claiming that the Lakeway prohibition was outside of their purview.
According to Lakeway police records, one of the dogs attempted to assault a neighbor's puppy on September 13 while it was on the free.
According to current data, Stanford has acquired a second puppy from Austin Pets Alive!
Andrea Greig, an animal control officer for Lakeway, informed attorney Justin McMinn via email that Patricia Stanford had adopted another puppy from Austin
Pets Alive!
When I called them, they informed me that she had adopted a dog known for attacking young dogs. I think she intentionally acquired this dog because it bites. I really can't believe Austin Pets Alive, a rescue organization, doesn't even perform Google searches. I'm furious, and that's an understatement. (Andrea Greig)

Our client was violently assaulted by two dogs in a park, according to a lawsuit recently filed by the McMinn Law Firm. Erica Curtis, our client, had major hand injuries that required surgery and was left covered in blood.
Erica Curtis was surprised to discover after the event that other people had also been hurt by these dogs, who were still running loose on trails.
Near Commons Ford Road and Cuernavaca Drive in late April 2019, Erica Curtis was walking her 60-pound dog on a route behind a church. Two dogs approached her and her dog, Boomskie, while they were strolling down the route without
leashes or collars.
At first, Patricia Stanford, the owner of the dogs, was invisible to Erica. According to Erica, the incident lasted for at least 20 minutes. During that moment, Erica's thumb was severed, and an injury to her ring finger necessitated surgery. The dogs attacked and mauled her dog. After attempting to defend herself for nearly 20 minutes, a witness walking by dialed 9-1-1. Emergency personnel came within 15 minutes and took Erica to the hospital.
Figure: Boomskie Following the incident, the dog had to endure three different surgery. Vets didn't think Boomskie would survive the attack until a month later.
After the dogs attacked, Erica discovered that the same canines had also assaulted a number of other persons. A pit bull that was loose in Stanford's front yard once mauled a neighbor's dog. One of the pit bulls attacked a dog and a human in Bee Cave during another assault at a dog park.
She attempted to stop other dog assaults like hers by sharing her story with KVUE News and KXAN News.
The owner was sued by McMinn Law Firm for harm done to Erica Curtis. Dog owners that are irresponsible and have aggressive dogs must be held accountable. Boomskie the dog weighs about 60 pounds, but many park visitors are much smaller kids. Although a household pet was hurt in this instance, violent dogs may have fatally wounded or badly maimed a youngster.
"It really puzzles me that irresponsible dog owners that have violent dogs and they still go out in public," said Melissa Melot, a prior victim of the dogs.
In 2018, Melot and her dog were attacked near a dog park in Bee Cave. A man made an attempt to step in during the encounter. One of the dogs bit him, but he chose not to press charges. The dog owned by Melot had head and neck injuries as well as an eardrum puncture.
Animal Control at the time took Stanford's canines and kept them for 10 days.
Lakeway Police issued a penalty to Stanford in 2016 for keeping his canines loose or unattended.
Two other dog bite injuries involving Stanford's canines were recorded in 2014. The Lakeway Police Department looked into both. In Stanford's house, a tenant's dog was assaulted. One of the dogs went free in the area and attacked another dog in a different incident.
